AI search optimization (GEO) costs a small business $200โ$600 per month when it is bundled with the website, $1,500โ$5,000 per month as a standalone agency retainer, and $10,000+ per month for enterprise programs. One-time setup, when charged, runs $500โ$3,500 for a small business. The price is driven by how many pages have to be made crawler-readable, how many business listings need fixing, how much answer-first content has to be written, and how competitive the questions are nationally.
The four pricing tiers
Do-it-yourself: $20โ$100/month plus your time
Listing-sync tools, a schema plugin and a robots.txt edit. This covers business-fact consistency and structured data, but not crawlability of a JavaScript site, answer-first content, or third-party mentions, which are what actually get a business named.
Bundled with a website (small business): $500โ$3,500 build, $200โ$600/month
The website, listings, content and schema are built as one asset. The monthly fee covers hosting, updates, local SEO and the ongoing AI search work: new answer pages, mention building, Bing and IndexNow submissions, and an AI visibility report. For a local service business this is the right tier, because the site and the AI work share the same pages.
Standalone GEO retainer: $1,500โ$5,000/month
A mid-size agency works on a site it did not build. Prices are higher because much of the budget goes to retrofitting crawlability and structure, and to coordinating with whoever maintains the site.
Enterprise: $10,000+/month
Multi-location brands, large content programs, and custom AI-visibility monitoring across hundreds of queries.
What drives the price up or down
- Crawlability. If your site is blank without JavaScript, every page an AI engine should read has to be pre-rendered or rebuilt. That is the largest single cost on retrofit projects and nearly free when the site is built correctly from the start.
- Listing cleanup. Ten listings with the wrong phone number cost more to fix than ten correct ones.
- Content volume. Each question you want to be the answer for needs a page. Twenty questions cost more than five.
- Competition. "Best plumber website company" nationally needs more third-party mentions than "plumber website design in Jefferson City."
- Reporting. Monthly AI-visibility tracking across several assistants is included in some plans and billed separately in others.
What a good small-business plan includes
- Crawlability test and fix (pre-rendered HTML for every key page)
- Business listing audit and corrections
LocalBusiness,Service,Person,FAQPageschema and anllms.txt- Answer-first pages for your top customer questions
- Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow submission
- Monthly mention-building (directories, chamber, press, communities)
- Monthly report: which assistants name you, for which questions, citing which page
If a quote does not list items 1, 5 and 7, it is an SEO quote with a new label.
Iron Pixel's pricing
Iron Pixel includes all seven items in every website: a $500 setup fee and plans from $200/month, month-to-month, no long-term contract, with a free custom mockup before you pay. That puts a complete AI-search-ready website for a contractor or local business at the bottom of the bundled tier, because we build the site to be crawler-readable from day one instead of retrofitting it. Frequently asked questions
Is AI search optimization worth it for a small business? Yes, if customers in your category ask assistants for recommendations, which now includes nearly every home service, healthcare and professional category. One extra job a month covers a $200โ$600 plan.
Can I just add GEO to my existing SEO plan? Sometimes. Ask your current provider the crawlability question: "fetch my inner page as GPTBot and tell me what it sees." If they cannot answer, the plan is not covering AI search.
Why is Iron Pixel cheaper than a standalone GEO retainer? Because the website, listings and content are built together, there is no retrofit cost, and the ongoing work is spread across a monthly plan instead of a project fee.
Are there contracts? Not at Iron Pixel. Plans are month-to-month.
